Ode to Olivia: Scandal Fashion Hits Saks
With the return of ABC’s Scandal tonight, there is exciting things happening on Fifth Avenue. Passers-by can stop and gawk at Saks Fifth Avenue’s latest collaboration with the extremely fashionable television show Scandal. Some of the designers who joined this collaboration are Giorgio Armani, Michael Kors, Donna Karan, Calvin Klein and Carolina Herrera. Kerry Washington (@kerrywashington) tweeted this photo of her looking lovingly at the Fitz mannequin. I thought I would pass time until the Season 3 premiere by reflecting on my favourite fashion moments of Olivia Pope. Kerry Washington’s character, Olivia Pope, is without a doubt one of the most fashion-oriented yet accessibly dressed characters on television, so it makes sense that Saks would pay tribute.
1. Statement Coats
This is one look that is very on trend this season, and Olivia does it flawlessly. Here are 2 of my favorites:
Worn in the Season 2 episode “Happy Birthday, Mr. President”
Ralph Lauren Blue Label Cashmere Wrap Sweater …And the coat she wore in “Spies Like Us” and “The Other Woman”
Salvatore Ferragamo Cream Pearl Cashmere And Wool Blend Coat This one is doubly trending right now first as a statement coat and as a pastel. The exaggerated collar is divine, and would be welcome anytime in my wardrobe.
2. Christian Dior Tweed Jacket This is one look that I have obsessed over ever since mid season 2. It is a gorgeous tweed jacket with a structured peplum. Unfortunately this image does not do this piece justice. The strong silhouette is breathtaking. I have no idea what Jake and Olivia were talking about on their “Date-not-a-date,” however this jacket is permanently etched into my brain’s dream closet. This look is completed with grey leather Gasper Opera Gloves and Prada Black “Saffiano Lux Tote.”
3. Monochromatic White
This is a look that I most envy. White is dangerous territory for a girl who spills everything, such as myself. In fact spilling on myself has become known as “pulling an Amanda” in my circles. If I even wear one white piece, it becomes a point of obsession for the night to keep it clean. Here seen in all white from the episode “Hell Hath No Fury”
And here she is lounging in a long Jil Sander cardigan. Olivia looks perfectly comfy in the monochromatic look. (She is brave to be drinking that red wine)
4. Vintage Jean Fares Couture Gown This is the unforgettable gown that Olivia wore to the President’s 50th Birthday. According to an interview with Lyn Paolo (Scandal Costume Designer) Olivia almost was unable to wear this gown. When it arrived the chiffon was “in tatters”, however with permission from the design house she set to work rebuilding the dress, adding layers of material and repairing the intricate beading on the bodice. All this hard work paid off, “We were crying in Kerry’s trailer when she put it on, ” Paolo says. “It was perfect.”
Kerry Washington and costume designer, Lyn Paolo have perfected the look of Olivia Pope. Half the time I find myself ogling at the fashion instead of the plot. Which makes for a good excuse to have to rewind and see the clothes all over again. I cannot wait for season 3 to start, and to see the undoubtably increible fashion ahead for Olivia.
HAPPY SCANDAL IS BACK DAY!
