My Favorite Fall Look {Happy Halloween}

Happy Halloween! I hope you all fill up on candy and classic horror films. I know I will be tonight!

Here is my go-to look for fall. A simple and casual look that’s great for any day! I like the sleek look of black with the contrast of the cream studded blazer (which I am in love with). And a pop of color with the vibrant orange scarf and teal bag. And I always wear a necklace under my scarf, it’s fun when it peeks through, and it’s great to have something on your neck if you take off your scarf!

My favorite fall trend is leather details! I have noticed that most of my fall buys have leather trim.

Hauntingly Good Halloween TV Specials

Happy Halloweek! For all you Monsters and Ghouls looking for a Halloween Television throwback, look no further! I have put together my list of the holiday episodes that get me into the festive spirit.

14. Saved By the Bell – “Mystery Weekend” (1991) Screech Save By the Bell Mystery Party

The gang gathers at a swanky mansion for a murder-mystery weekend. All the usual suspects are there. The maid. The butler. The piano player. The host dressed in a smoking jacket with the ability to summon thunder whenever he says something dramatic.

13. Beverly Hills, 90210 – “Halloween” (1991) Halloween Bonnie and Clyde 90210

I absolutely love the costumes in this episode. By far my favorite is Brenda as Bonnie (with Dylan McKay as her Clyde). mermaid Donna Martin Halloween Costume Beverly Hills 90210Donna’s mermaid costume may pose as a problem in movement, and my question is how did she get to the party?

Note: The one downfall of the episode is Emily Valentine and her bleach blonde presence.

And in true 9-0 form there is a moral to the Halloween story: don’t wear a slutty (possibly a) witch costume, or it may lead to attempted rape, as it did for Kelly Taylor. Kelly Taylor Halloween Beverly Hills 90210 Slutty Costume

“It doesn’t matter how much of a magnet a girl turns on. A guy always has a choice of not making her do something she doesn’t want to do.” Wise words Dylan McKay

12. Boy Meets World – “And Then There Was Shawn” (1999) Boy Meets World - And Then There Was Shawn Growing up I loved Friday night pizza and TGIF nights! This episode had the feel of Scream or I Know What You Did Last Summer (even featuring Jennifer Love Hewitt – Will Freidle’s main squeeze at the time).

Eric
: What’s you name?
Jennifer Love Fefferman: Jennifer Love Fefferman
Eric: May I call you Feffie
Jennifer Love Fefferman: Everyone does

Complete with the perfect 90s reference, having Eric exclaim “Oh My Gosh! They killed Kenny!”

11. Sabrina the Teenage Witch – “A Halloween Story” (1996) Sabrina-The-Teenage-Witch-A-Halloween-Story-1-05-sabrina-the-teenage-witch-24339856-1067-800 Hunky Harvey dressed as James Dean… need I say more?

10. Parks and Recreation – “Greg Pikitis” (2009) Parks and Recreation - Greg Pikitis Halloween

Leslie attempts to stop the Halloween punk vandal, meanwhile Ann throws a lame party, until Tom saves the day.

“I passed up a gay Halloween party to be here. Do you know how much fun gay Halloween parties are? Last year I saw three Jonas brothers make out with three Robert Pattisons. It was amazing.” – April

9. How I Met Your Mother – “Slutty Pumpkin” (2005) / “The Slutty Pumpkin Returns” (2011) Slutty Pumpkin How I Met Your Mother Ted waits all night for a woman in a slutty pumpkin costume, who never shows. Top Gun Barney How I Met Your Mother Slutty PumpkinThe best moment is Barney’s first costume entrance as a fighter pilot from Top Gun. He has “Danger Zone” by Kenny Loggins playing on the boombox and dropping lines… “Oh, you’re dangerous, Maverick. Your ego’s writing checks your body can’t cash.” However, the most important reason why this episode was awesome is, that it taught me the Tootsie Roll Drink (equal parts Kahlua and Rootbeer).

“The Slutty Pumpkin Returns”How I met Your Mother slutty Pumpkin Returns Had to mention this episode. Ted finally meets his Slutty Pumpkin and she is (drumroll…..) Joey Potter! Also Robin dressed as a Vancouver Canuck (Hometown pride gurl!)

8. New Girl – “Halloween” (2012) New Girl Halloween Nick Jess Bee Arthur Costumes Zombie So much gold in this episode; from Nick’s “Bee Arthur” costume, to Robbie’s Ninja Turtle junk. I am for suresies with Nick on his stance on Haunted Houses! They are WAY scary, and sometimes you just have to punch a zombie (even if itis a girl)!

“Oh, I  get it: The guy who shot John Lennon dressed as a Ninja Turtle!” – Schmidt

7. Friends – “The One with the Halloween Party” (2001) Friends The one with a Halloween Party It doesn’t get much better than a man in a fluffy pink bunny costume, arm wrestling a man dressed as a potato with a colander on his head.

“Hey. Ross came as Doody.” – Joey

6. The Office – “Halloween” (2005)
The Office Halloween Michael Costume So many of The Office Halloween episodes were fantastic, however I think none can quite compete with the first.

Some of my favorite costumes from this eppie:

Michael – 2 headed Michael

The 3 women wearing cat costumes (apparently a woman’s go-to):
Phyllis- Cat
Pam – Black Cat
Angela – Cat

Jim – 3 holed punch Jim (Jim’s costumes are always low effort = big laughs)

Kelly – Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz (despite Michael’s suggestion for her to dress as Bend it Like Beckham)

Sidenote: I love when Michael’s costume makes a reappearance, when he mistakes Diwali for a costume party.

5. Roseanne – “Halloween IV”  (1992)
Roseanne Halloween Headless Marie AntoinetteRoseanne always gave us spectacular Halloween episodes, but this Christmas Carol-inspired one is a lot of fun.

Halloween Past: Roseanne traveling back to the Halloween party where she met Dan as a teenager and terrorized his then-girlfriend.

Halloween Present: Dan dressed as a headless Marie Antoinette, and Jackie as his severed royal head.

Halloween Future: Roseanne has turned into a fun-hating, man-pleasing Stepford wife who does the unthinkable — hands out toothbrushes to trick ‘r treaters

4. Community – “Epidemiology” (2010)
Community-Halloween-episode Narrated by George Takei, Community created a plausible zombie outbreak; The party was catered by military rations from an army surplus store, causing a mysterious illness with side effects of extremely high fever and an insatiable desire to bite humans. This paired with a playlist of ABBA and the Dean’s voice memos, made for a memorable evening.

“Make me proud. Be the first black man to make it to the end.” – Abed Nadir: [to Troy]

3. The Simpsons – “Treehouse of Horrors V” (1994)
shinning Simpsons Treehouse of Horrors V The Shinning portion has been unanimously declared the best of all Treehouse of Horrors. And that’s all I have to say about that.

“Oh, I wish I wish I hadn’t killed that fish…” – Homer

2. Buffy the Vampire Slayer – “Halloween” (1997) / “Fear, Itself” (1999) (Tie)

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Halloween Buffy Victorian Noble Woman

The premise of Halloween in the Wheadonverse, is that Vampires take the day off, typically.  This Halloween Ethan Rayne, a Chaos worshiper, conjures up a spell causing everybody turn into their costumes. Further hijinks ensues as Spike attempts to kill the slayer. Buffy, dressed as a victorian noble woman, takes on a role as the damsel in distress, Xander takes over as warrior as he becomes one with his gun as a soldier.

buffy the vampire slayer halloween Willow Ghost

Willow was convinced Buffy to wear a mini skirt and a crop top, however last second she covers up in her ghost costume, leaving her to turn into a slutty ghost?

“She couldn’t have dressed up like Xena?” – Willow

“Fear, Itself”
anya-bunny-buffy

Buffy and the gang are in college now, and they head to a halloween party on campus. Again, the vampires are taking the night off, however, Gachnar, a demon with the ability to materialize terror, is accidentally conjured and wreaks havoc on the party.

One of my favorite details of the episode: Anya is one of the best characters on BtVS, and her outrageous fear of bunnies, makes her even more endearing. She was told to dress in something scary, and to her that means… a bunny!

Buffy: There’s no problem that cannot be solved by chocolate.
Willow: I think I’m gonna barf.
Buffy: Except that.

1. Freaks and Geeks – “Tricks and Treats” (1999)
Freaks and Geeks Halloween Good This episode is my favourite of all Freaks & Geeks. It is true to what Halloween is in our adolescence. Lame pranks, trying to figure out how old, is too old to go trick-or-treating (I pushed this!), peer pressure against ones morals and genuine goodness, and the dynamics of family when it comes to any holiday.

The most memorable moments:

When Mrs. Weir sings Monster Mash at the table, I die.

Millie and her Lik-a-maid.

“I’m sorry Steve Austin. I can’t marry you. I’m mad at you right now. What? I’m sorry I can’t hear you. Hold on I’m gonna put the phone on my bionic ear. That’s, that’s better. No, don’t talk so loud! Don’t forget I’ve got bionic hearing. No! These are not bionic! These are all me!” – Bill Haverchuck as the Bionic Woman.

Honourable Mention: It’s a Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown Its-the-Great-Pumpkin-Charlie-Brown-1 A Classic.

Ode to Olivia: Scandal Fashion Hits Saks

Scandal Fashion Window at Saks Fifth Avenue

Scandal Fashion Window at Saks Fifth Avenue

Kerry with Fitz Mannequin Kerry Washington and President Grant (Fitz) Mannequin in the Scandal Fashion Collaboration window at Saks Fifth Ave

With the return of ABC’s Scandal tonight, there is exciting things happening on Fifth Avenue. Passers-by can stop and gawk at Saks Fifth Avenue’s latest collaboration with the extremely fashionable television show Scandal. Some of the designers who joined this collaboration are Giorgio Armani, Michael Kors, Donna Karan, Calvin Klein and Carolina Herrera. Kerry Washington (@kerrywashington) tweeted this photo of her looking lovingly at the Fitz mannequin. I thought I would pass time until the Season 3 premiere by reflecting on my favourite fashion moments of Olivia Pope. Kerry Washington’s character, Olivia Pope, is without a doubt one of the most fashion-oriented yet accessibly dressed characters on television, so it makes sense that Saks would pay tribute.

1. Statement Coats

This is one look that is very on trend this season, and Olivia does it flawlessly. Here are 2 of my favorites:

Olivia Pope / Kerry Washington in Ralph Lauren Coat / Sweater in Happy Birthday Mr. President Scandal Season 2

Worn in the Season 2 episode “Happy Birthday, Mr. President”

Ralph Lauren Blue Label Cashmere Wrap Sweater Olivia Pope Scandal Kerry Washington Ralph Lauren Blue Label Cashmere Wrap Sweater…And the coat she wore in “Spies Like Us” and  “The Other Woman” Olivia Pope / Kerry Washington in Scandal in coat worn in “Spies Like Us” and “The Other Woman” Salvatore Ferragamo Cream Pearl Cashmere And Wool Blend Coat
Salvatore Ferragamo Cream Pearl Cashmere And Wool Blend Coat olivia pope Kerry Washington Salvatore Ferragamo Cream Pearl Cashmere And Wool Blend CoatThis one is doubly trending right now first as a statement coat and as a pastel. The exaggerated collar is divine, and would be welcome anytime in my wardrobe.

2. Christian Dior Tweed Jacket Olivia Pope in Christian Dior Tweed Jacket Kerry Washington This is one look that I have obsessed over ever since mid season 2. It is a gorgeous tweed jacket with a structured peplum. Unfortunately this image does not do this piece justice. The strong silhouette is breathtaking. I have no idea what Jake and Olivia were talking about on their “Date-not-a-date,” however this jacket is permanently etched into my brain’s dream closet. This look is completed with grey leather Gasper Opera Gloves and Prada Black “Saffiano Lux Tote.”

3. Monochromatic White

This is a look that I most envy. White is dangerous territory for a girl who spills everything, such as myself. In fact spilling on myself has become known as “pulling an Amanda” in my circles. If I even wear one white piece, it becomes a point of obsession for the night to keep it clean. Here seen in all white from the episode “Hell Hath No Fury” All White
And here she is lounging in a long Jil Sander cardigan. Olivia looks perfectly comfy in the monochromatic look. (She is brave to be drinking that red wine) In Jil Sander
4. Vintage Jean Fares Couture Gown vintage Jean Fares Couture gown  This is the unforgettable gown that Olivia wore to the President’s 50th Birthday. According to an interview with Lyn Paolo (Scandal Costume Designer) Olivia almost was unable to wear this gown. When it arrived the chiffon was “in tatters”, however with permission from the design house she set to work rebuilding the dress, adding layers of material and repairing the intricate beading on the bodice. All this hard work paid off, “We were crying in Kerry’s trailer when she put it on, ” Paolo says. “It was perfect.”

Kerry Washington and costume designer, Lyn Paolo have perfected the look of Olivia Pope. Half the time I find myself ogling at the fashion instead of the plot. Which makes for a good excuse to have to rewind and see the clothes all over again. I cannot wait for season 3 to start, and to see the undoubtably increible fashion ahead for Olivia.

HAPPY SCANDAL IS BACK DAY!

Fall Trends Inspired by Flare World Runway Tour

April and I front row at the Flare World Runway TourCheck out @heartlockettxo’s latest blog post about Fall Fashion trends from Flare magazine’s Runway Tour. The fashion show was this past Tuesday at the Four Seasons Hotel and Pacific Centre. It was such a fun night!

This week I had the greatest pleasure of attending the Flare World Runway Tour fashion show in Vancouver! This was the first show I had ever been to and I was BEYOND excited, after obsessing for a week about outfit choices I dawned a red peplum top, black tulip skirt, tights, high black wedge booties and some gold accessories and headed out for an awesome girls night out. The cocktail hour was wonderful Tres Semme & Este Lauder were there doing impromptu hair, make-up and manis for the attendees. The girls and I gushed over everyone’s outfits (everyone was dressed to the nines!), the venue (Four Seasons baby!) and had a wonderful time sampling the many treats. From mango shooters, macaroons, caramel apples, to cotton candy and tiramisu, the spread was glorious!
Next, we headed to the Pacific Centre Atrium for a runway run-down of all the latest fall fashion…
