Must Have Beauty Picks

Summer is around the corner —  and how better to get ready than to stock our vanities with the season’s best beauty finds.

Beach Bag Essentials

Beach Bag Essentials

So you have been daydreaming of the beach while you are at work all week — make sure to grab these  essentials before you hit the sand!

What to Wear to Work for Summer

We know, summer is hot. All we want to be wearing is our swimsuit at the beach, but we still have to go to the office on those pesky days between the beach days! Dressing for work may be a challenge, so here are some fantastic looks — plus some of them can go from day to night!

The Chambray Dress

Chambray is the perfect Summer look! It can be a great casual look, or dressed up a bit! Red is such a fun color to pair with the dusty blue of chambray — keeping the accessories simple creates such a fresh look! Plus, we all love a great fit at the natural waistline, with a touch of fullness below!

{KATE SPADE NEW YORK Holly Street Rubie Purse} {REBECCA MINKOFF Tulum Metal Round Stud}
{BAUBLEBAR Leafy Gem Bib} {NARS
Semi Matte Lipstick} {ESSIE Sheers in Angel Food}

The Midi Skirt

By now I am sure you have seen the midi everywhere you look! But we love it, because it’s such a fantastic look. Because of the fit at the natural waist {once again} and then the flare, it can actually make you look 10lbs lights! {Bonus!} This look is so bright a cheerful! I love mint and vibrant orange paired together! I woule loosely tuck the top into the skirt, to keep that fitted waist.

{MICHAEL MICHAEL KORS Kami T-Strap Wedges} {TORY BURCHMulti Strand Logo Necklace}
{DEBORAH LIPPMANN Nail Polish in Girls Just Want To Have Fun}

The Crop Top

Some people may question the crop top for the work place. I think it can make for a very classy look — as long as it is styled properly. I would suggest going for a boxier crop, and layering it under a jacket. Here we have it under a sleeveless blazer for a bit of an edgier look. Pair this with a high-waisted skirt, or trousers {seen here} and you will be ready for work!

{GIORGIO ARMANI Rouge D’Armani Sheer Lipstick} {ZARA White Sleeveless Blazer}

White Denim

I love pairing white denim with chambray. It creates the perfect clean look, and is ready for a few accent pops! Here we have styled this Anna Field white denim pencil skirt with tan shoes and belt, a chunky necklace and bangles. I love the pop of coral in the Nail Polish!

Mixing Prints

I love mixing prints! It gives your outfit that extra little punch. Previously we talked about some great guidelines on how to mix prints with ease {here.} The key to this look, is working with proportions. The TOPSHOP top, although a stripe, is the larger print, and can be paired with the small print of the Thomas Rath trousers.  The accessories are all geometric as a nod to the prominent print mixing of the look.

{STELLA MCCARTNEY Square Sunnies} {NARS Lip Gloss in ‘Orgasm’}
{DEBORAH LIPPMANN Limited Edition Punk Rock Nail Polish, Ghost Gray}

The Tulle Skirt

Tulle is one of the epitomes of femininity. No longer is it only for ballerinas! Paired with an Aztec print and strappy flat sandals allows this skirt to be more accessible. Another style option would be to wear a white button up shirt with short sleeves, and tie up the shirt in the front. With this change I would opt for a short heel with a pop of color!

{LANCÔME Advanced Replenishing & Reshaping Lipcolor Pro-Xylane  in L’Absolu Rouge}
{LAUREN B. BEAUTY Nail Polish in Venice Beach Venus}

The Printed Pastel Suit

One of the most crisp and fun looks is a printed suit, or co-ordinates. Pastel prints work perfectly for a summer look! Because of the all-over print, keep the top simple. Here we have a peach cami with the powder blue suit. This leaves room for a fabulous statement necklace.

Khaki Green

Once again we have the midi skirt. Styled here with a tie-front cropped tank, which works perfectly, because of the high waist silhouette. This look is easy, while still looking very put together. With khaki typically being on the more neutral side, it allows us to play with complimentary colors for the bag and nail polish!

{LORD & TAYLOR Gold-Tone Arrow Pendant Necklace} {TOPSHOP Triangle Stud Earrings by Orelia}
{DEBORAH LIPPMANN Nail Polish in Lara’s Theme}

The Suited Shorts

Shorts are a summer staple, and as a coordinate can be perfect for the workplace. The jacket is a touch longer than a typical suit jacket. This proportion with the shorts create a perfectly polished look. The geometric beaded detail of the suit, has been drawn into the lines of the blouse. Picking shoes with an ankle detail is a great look to go with shorts.

{MARC BY MARC JACOBS Kisa monochrome embellished crepe blouse}
{PIERRE HARDY Ankle Cuff Leather Sandals} {BAUBLEBAR Emerald Tear Drops Earrings}

The Shirtdress

The shirtdress is a clean and classic look that works well for summer. If you choose a white dress it is basically a fresh canvas for you accessory color story of your choosing. Here we worked in fresh pastels. *Sidenote: I just bough a bunch of the new Benefit Lip Balm — I am in LOVE! {Cha Cha Balm is one of 4!} *

{SHOES OF PREY Custom Made Shoes} {COLLETE HAYMAN Circles Chain Bib Necklace}
{ELYA Goldplated Brass Moonstone Earrings} {Benefit ChaChaBalm} {ESSIE Nail Polish in Tart Deco}

The Wrap Dress

One of the most classic and sophisticated looks is the Wrap Dress. Which we all love, because it is such an easy look. We owe thanks to Diane von Furstenburg for this beauty.  This year marks the 40th Anniversary of DVF’s wrap dress! The natural V of the neckline allows for a beautiful statement necklace, otherwise, especially with this print, keep the rest of the accessories simple and classic.

Fashion of the Greatest Summer Movies

Now that the weather seems to be set to Summer, we need to start getting in the mood! The best way for that… get inspired by fashion from our favorite summer flicks!

Released in 1987, yet set at a family camp in 1963, the fashion of Dirty Dancing is a unique hybrid of both the 60s and 80s trends. Nobody puts the girl in a crop top and Keds in the corner. *Bonus points for anyone who gets the earring reference*

{Keds Back to the Basics Sneaker} {Miss Selfridge Coral Bodysuit} {RAG & BONE Marilyn Short}
{Melody Ehsani The Watermelon Stud Earrings}
{Oasis Pink Lace Skater Dress} {Aldo Aleiwen Strappy Heels}

A story of Summer Romance put through the ringer, that is high school. At Rydel High in the 50s, {film released 1978} Danny Zuko and Sandy sing and dance their way through the ups and downs. The bad gal Pink Ladies and goody two-shoes Sandra Dee make for great contrast of costumes! Summer Lovin’ got me a great midi skirt and a bad ass red lip!

Grease Fashion

A group of young baseball players during the summer of 1962 {released in 1993}, The Sandlot showed us the importance of overcoming our fears and the power of camaraderie. Athletic influence can be so fun in fashion, I love the look of sportier pieces paired with a dressier accent—makes for a fantastic juxtaposition.

This movie, from 1993, takes place on the last day of school in 1973. It has such a fun cast, including Ben Affleck, Matthew McConaughey, Parker Posey, Jeremy London and Milla Jovovich. The film is fantastic, because not only do we get boho chic fashion, freshman hazing and other debauchery, but we get THAT haircut on Matthew McConaughey!

{BRIAN ATWOOD Akemi Braided-Leather Platform Wedges}

Set in 1954, this is the first film on the list that is set in the same era that it was made! Grace Kelly, a fashion icon in her own right, was perfectly on point in this film thanks to the renowned Edith Head. The 50s were fashion’s home to one of the most fabulous silhouettes, the fit and flare. Images of Grace can’t help but flood our minds when we think of this decade’s style. As the dramatic Hitchcock thriller plays out, we cannot help but be enthralled with Lisa Freemont’s wardrobe. I kind of wish we could see in her closet, as she is known to “never wears the same dress twice,” according to Jimmy Stewart!

In this fabulous Cameron Crowe film, Sixteen-year-old William, who has landed a writing assignment from Rolling Stone, meets Penny Lane, the free spirit ‘non-groupie,’ and both of them follow around the band Stillwater. Set against the backdrop of the Rock scene of the 70s, Penny’s outrageous bohemian lifestyle makes for a fantastic wardrobe for us to envy!

The most noteworthy about the film’s fashion is the balances of masculinity and femininity, which create the beautiful and essential look that is Annie Hall. Androgyny and the melding of gender specific clothing can be extremely feminine, which is why so many look to this film for inspiration.
