Designer to Watch: Daniella Kallmeyer

The more and more that I see of Daniella Kallmeyer‘s work, the more I see she is a force to be reckoned with. If her designs don’t speak for themselves {which they do} her resumé will.

After graduating from the London School of Fashion, where she was named “one to watch,” by WWD, she went on to work for Alexander McQueen, Proenza Schouler, Alice + Olivia, Luca Luca, Les Chiffoniers, and Jen Kao, in both ready-to-wear and couture. Impressed?

*Everyone simultaneously nods*

In the fall of 2010 she found her own women’s wear label. Based in New York City, South African born Daniella Kallmeyer the multi-disciplinary fashion designer continues to create fresh and beautiful collections for the empowered woman. With a focus on sustainability, Kallmeyer will continue to be a fierce player in the fashion world.

Zooey Deschanel teams up with Tommy Hilfiger

To Tommy, From Zooey.

Zooey Deschanel is working on a capsule collection with the American sportswear designer, Tommy Hilfiger. The collection will consist of 16 dresses, all of which will channel Zooey’s quirky and charming personality. As a fan of vintage, all of the dresses will be 60s inspired, as well will predominately be in an Americana color palette.

The dresses will be priced at retail for between $98 and $199, and 14 of the 16 styles will launch at 200 Macy’s stores beginning April 14.

Atelier Versace + Gaga

Spring 2014 haute couture presentations have begun in Paris. Versace was first up, and Donatella and Lady Gaga showed up together looking like mother and daughter. Their love for one another is strong, as Gaga included a song on Artpop called ‘Donnatella’ and Versace has made Gaga the face of the spring 2014 Versace campaign.

Lady Gaga and Donnatella Versace

The collection was opulent as ever, channelling the one and only Grace Jones, and featuring geometric embroidery, draped silk jersey and hoods in a range of colors from lavender to bold orange. A detail that brought the wow factor were the faux tattoo embellishments on the sheer panels. It was a very sext collection including slits, skin and fur. Versace’s Trifecta.

Highlights of Pre-Fall 2014 so far…

Here are some of my favorites from the Pre-Fall collections so far:

What has been your favorite Pre-Fall collection?

Chalayan Pre-Fall 2014

Hussein Chalayan’s fantastic pre-fall collection is a beautiful marriage between strong structures and delicate draping. The muted palette against the pops of deep vibrant tones are haunting.

According to WWD, Chalayan was inspired by the architectural surfaces and structures of his office, he began by playing around with different fabrics and pairing them together to create shapes from the draping. The vast contours of each piece propel into the next, yet are all tied together in the unity of this collection. The stunning make-up palette print is to be noted, its playfulness is persuasive in geometric patterns and bold array of colors.

His Fall collection will continue along these same lines, and I am excited to see where he goes from
